Two-Year-Old Negotiations

In recent weeks, I have learned that there is a difference between what I hear Stellan saying and what he really means. Here is an actual conversation from this evening:

Stellan: I want a cheese sandwich.
Mommy: OK. Will it have bread?
Stellan: Yes. Cheese sandwich with bread.
Mommy: Will it have cheese?
Stellan [greatly agitated]: No cheese, Mama!

The other day Lillian asked for toast, so I put a piece of bread in the toaster. Lillian: But mom, I don't want butter on it! Or, for you to put it in the toaster! Me: so.... you want just bread? Lillian: Um.... Um.... um... yeah, just bread.

Eliza is a lover of "toast" as well. Toast can mean anything from actual toast with jam and butter to plain bread to a PB&J to a grilled cheese. She thinks toast is for every meal right now. *sigh* P.S. I LOVE the cookie jar!
